Halfway There, But Not Halfway Done
Here we are. Halfway through April of 2018, and consequently, halfway through the first Camp NaNoWriMo of the year. Once again, as with my first NaNoWriMo experience in November of 2017, I was (not quite as) woefully unprepared. This time it was less so with ideas and story prep, than with time. I started off strong - albeit a couple days late - but caught up, and managed to stay on track... for all of five days...
I knew this was the reality of this Camp. April happens to be final project and exam season for university students such as myself. Thankfully, the future is bright - only one exam to go and then I have the rest of the month to try and catch up to as close to my goal as possible. I'm fortunate that I have a great support system, and I've learned not to beat myself down for not meeting goals - at least when it's for a worthwhile reason. As much as I'd like to argue that I should be able to blow off studying for writing (it's more fun, and in some ways feels more productive), I recognise that while writing will always be there - save some unsavoury accident that turns me into a vegetable - school, nay, this semester, will not. Learning to prioritise has been one of the biggest struggles, but in the end, I'm seeing the work pay off.
On the topic of inspiration: with exam season coming to a close, I finally will have time to read again. I think one of the greatest issues with my writers block has been staling inspiration. I believe it's time to go back and read some old favourites, as well as delve into some new ones.
The game, dear friends, is afoot!
